Privacy Policy

Jewel ("we," "us") helps people in Austin find meaningful relationships through a hand-matched introduction service. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and who sees it.
What we collect
When you sign up, we collect your email address. If you take our compatibility survey, we also collect your name, your phone number, your survey answers, and your photos. The survey asks for 3 to 5 photos. Before a photo is stored, we remove the hidden details that phones and cameras attach to it, such as where and when it was taken. If you recommend someone to us, we keep the name and contact details you give us for them. We also record when you agreed to this policy and to receiving texts, and the exact wording you agreed to.
To protect the survey from spam, we record a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address when you submit it. It can't be turned back into your IP address, and we use it only to limit repeated submissions.
We don't collect payment information, and we don't ask you to create an account.
Sensitive information
Some survey questions cover sensitive topics: your Jewish identity and practice, your gender and who you want to date, your political views, and whether you drink, smoke or use cannabis. We ask because these things matter for compatibility. We use these answers only to find and review matches, and we ask for your consent before you submit the survey. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
How we use it
We use your survey answers to find people you're likely to be compatible with. Any deal breakers you mark are checked first, and a real person reviews every proposed match before anything is shared.
We use your email and phone number to contact you about Jewel: to follow up after you sign up, to tell you about a match, and to reach out when we have something relevant for you. We don't sell your information or share it with advertisers.
How we use AI
To help find good matches, we use AI to compare survey answers and suggest how compatible two people might be. We use Claude, made by Anthropic, which processes those answers on our behalf. AI never makes the final call: a person reviews every match. Your photos and contact details, and the details of anyone you recommend, are never sent to AI.
Who sees your information
The Jewel team sees your survey answers and photos so we can review matches. When we find a match, we first share a few light details about you, never your name or photos. Only after you've both said yes and the introduction is confirmed do we share your name, phone number and photos with each other. We never show your profile publicly.
Text messages
Texting is how we tell you about matches, so the compatibility survey asks you to agree to receive texts from Jewel about your matches and your account before you submit it. That agreement is its own checkbox on the form, clearly worded and never ticked for you, and joining our email list doesn't sign you up for texts. Message and data rates may apply. We only text you about Jewel, and we never share your number with advertisers. You can reply STOP to any message to stop receiving texts at any time.
Where it's stored
Your survey answers, contact details and photos are stored in our database, which is run by Supabase. Your email is also kept with our email service provider, Kit, which we use to manage our list and send messages. Our website and survey are hosted by Vercel. When we use AI to compare matches, survey answers are processed by Anthropic. If you pay for an introduction, payment is handled by Stripe, so we never see your card details. Each of these companies handles your data under its own terms and privacy policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your survey answers, contact details and photos while you're part of Jewel, until you ask us to delete them. If you take the survey again with the same email, your new answers and photos replace the old ones, and the old photos are deleted. Photos that are uploaded but never submitted with a survey are deleted automatically within a few days.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in any email we send, or by contacting us directly. If you'd like us to delete your information entirely, including your survey answers and photos, ask and we'll remove it.
Changes
As Jewel grows, this policy will change, and we'll update it here. If we start collecting anything beyond what's described above, we'll revise this policy to reflect that before we do.
